Chief Financial Officer, Executive Director / Rio Tinto

UK-based Peter Cunningham has been with Rio Tinto since March 1993. He was appointed group controller in March 2014 and became interim chief financial officer in January 2021. He was formally appointed chief financial officer and an executive director in June 2021.

Mr Cunningham had also held a number of senior leadership roles in Australia and the UK including as chief financial officer of organisational resources; global head of health, safety, environment & communities; head of energy and climate strategy; and head of investor relations.

Prior to Rio Tinto, he qualified as a chartered accountant.
