Paul Vermeulen is a highly credentialled Metallurgical Engineer with over 25 years of experience in iron ore mining, processing and steel production. He is a recognised technical expert in the field of steel making, mining, beneficiation and bulk logistics.
Mr Vermeulen has managed the design and testing of offshore mineral resources processing and beneficiation for Trans-Tasman Resources, as well as the exploration and supervision of the world’s first three JORC classifications of an offshore mineral resource to Indicated and Inferred status. He is also an expert in steel making and managed the ArcelorMittal Newcastle blast furnace in South Africa for over 11 years. He also held senior technical roles at Rio Tinto Iron Ore and was general manager of blast furnace at ArcelorMittal (South Africa). Mr Vermeulen was a director of Vulcan Technologies where he advised on product strategies, assisted in marketing of products and manages all phases of feasibility studies for technical, engineering and environmental aspects. He was the chief metallurgist at Red Citadel Resources before becoming the general manager of technology and steel markets at Cyclone Metals in November 2023.
Mr Vermeulen has a Bachelor of Engineering in in Metallurgical Engineering and a postgraduate degree in Refractory Materials. He is a member of The Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy, and a member of the Association for Iron & Steel Technology.
