Paul Drechsler, former Group Managing
Director of national architectural and
planning practice, Hames Sharley, has been
a Commissioner of the Western Australian
Planning Commission since 2010. As a
professional Town Planner, Geographer and
Land Economist Mr Drechsler has 40 years’
experience in urban and regional planning,
commercial and retail development feasibility
studies, urban design and large-scale land
development.
Mr Drechsler has a double major in geography
and biological science and is a PhD candidate at
the University of Western Australia. His research
focus is on the retail sector; place consumption,
experiential shopping environments and the
impact of digital technologies and e-commerce
on physical retail platforms.
He is Deputy Presiding Member of the North
West Metropolitan Development Assessment
Panel and an alternate Deputy Presiding
Member for all metropolitan development
assessment panels. Mr Dreschler’s professional
affiliations include Fellow of the Planning
Institute of Australia, Fellow of the Australian
Property Institute and member of the Institute
of Australian Geographers.
