Perth’s top PR firms take cream in year’s big plays
FTI Consulting and Professional Public Relations are the top financial PR firms in Perth, WA Business News’ annual corporate finance survey has found.
Paul Downie is a globally experienced strategic communications advisor and manager, with a career spanning nearly 40 years.
Mr Downie was with FTI Consulting for over 14 years, having established his own firm in 1992 which he grew through partnership and was subsequently sold to FTI Consulting. He was involved in some of the biggest transactions in the Southeast Asian region particularly in the financial services, banking and resources industries.
Mr Downie specialises in managing multi-faceted communications programs and campaigns. He worked across a range of industries including finance, taxation, retail and agriculture. Early in his career, Mr Downie was involved in the agricultural export industry and lived in Kuala Lumpur and Singapore for two years. Along with his professional consulting career, he also managed several political campaigns for serving Federal and State Parliamentarians. Mr Downie was a journalist, having begun his career in Perth and then serving as a senior reporter with The Australian newspaper in Canberra.
He is a graduate member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, and a graduate of the Advanced Management Program of Columbia University NYC.

FIVE public relations firms dominated the Western Australian corporate finance market last year, with FTI Consulting ranked a narrow winner based on the value of transactions it worked on.
WA experience has kept Perth's top PR firms on top of their game and prevented global companies from getting much of a look in.
Paul Downie has rejoined public relations firm FTI Consulting as senior managing director after taking time away to pursue personal interests.Mr Downie was a journalist before co-founding an independent consultancy in 2002, which was acquired by FTI in 2008.

Former politician and prominent board director Ben Wyatt has been announced as the new chair of Perth Festival, which has also appointed three new members to its board.
