Paul Berend is an explorer, mining entrepreneur and corporate executive with over 20 years of experience in the iron ore and steel industry and at junior mining companies worldwide. He has been involved in developing and managing all aspects of natural resource projects.
Mr Berend was the founder and chief executive of an offshore mineral explorer Trans-Tasman Resources, which focused on large scale mining of iron sands in New Zealand. He also held a number of senior management positions in bluechip organisations including as head of strategy at ArcelorMittal, head of business development at Rio Tinto Iron Ore, and various management roles at McKinsey & Co and Air Liquide.
Mr Berend is a principal of Gambosch Consulting, a management consulting firm specialising in providing services to metals, mining and energy industries. He has been an executive director and chief executive of Cyclone Metals since May 2023.
Mr Berend holds an MBA from HEC (Paris, France), a MSc and DEA (~PhD) in Chemical Process Design and Chemistry from ENSIC (Nancy, France), a Bachelors degree in Applied Mathematics and Algebra from Harvard University, and is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
