He held senior executive roles with operational experience in the public and private sectors of the mineral resources industry.

Mr Cernotta was director of operations at Fortescue Metals Group. Prior to joining FMG with responsibility for delivering safe operational production, he was chief operating officer for MacMahon Contracting and was responsible for all domestic underground contracting and all offshore international surface mining contracts. Mr Cernotta was also director of operations for Barrick Gold in its Australia Pacific Regional Business Unit.
