Nicholas Moore AO joined Macquarie Group in 1986 and led the global development of its advisory, funds management, financing and securities businesses. He was appointed chief executive in 2008 and retired in 2018, after 33 years at Macquarie and 10 years as chief executive.
Mr Moore is chair of Screen Australia, the University of NSW Business School Advisory Council, and The Smith Family; and a director of the Centre for Independent Studies. He was chair of PCYC NSW from 2002 to 2015, and chair of the Sydney Opera House Trust from 2015 to 2020.
In November 2022 Mr Moore was appointed by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese as Australia's Special Envoy for Southeast Asia, to lead the development of a national strategy for greater trade and investment between Australia and Southeast Asia.
In 2023, Mr Moore was awarded an Officer of the Order of Australia for distinguished service to the finance, business, and commerce sectors, to arts administration, and to education.
