Dr Mike Nahan is a former economist and politician turned company director. He was the Liberal Party Member of the Legislative Assembly for Riverton from 2008 until his retirement from politics at the 2021 state elections.
After the March 2017 state election, he became Leader of the Liberal Party (WA) and the 33rd Leader of the Opposition in Western Australia, a position he held from 2017 until his resignation in June 2019. In the former Barnett Liberal government, he was the Minister for Energy, Citizenship and Multicultural Interests. He was also the Minister for Finance for a year before becoming State Treasurer in 2014.
Dr Nahan was an economist with a Master of Science in Agricultural Economics and a Doctor of Philosophy in Economics. He was an executive director of free-market thinktank, the Institute of Public Affairs, for a decade from 1995 to 2005.
