BHP human resources president Mike Fraser became president and joint chief operating officer of BHP Billiton's spin-out company South32's African operations until January 2022, and was based in Johannesburg. He then became chief executive of Chaarat Gold Holdings for 2 years before becoming chief executive of Gold Fields in January 2024.
Mr Fraser has extensive experience in southern Africa, having worked as the group’s coal, aluminium and manganese assets before being appointed asset president of the Mozal aluminium smelter.
