Working to end homelessness
This year’s Homelessness Week brought together business, government and not-for-profits to figure out how to meet Australia’s affordable and social housing needs.
Michelle Mackenzie has been the chief executive of not-for-profit community-based organisation Shelter WA since February 2018, having been appointed the manager of strategy and policy in August 2016.
Ms Mackenzie is a MA qualified executive and director with over 15 years of experience in local and state government, as well as the not-for-profit and resources sector. She has led multi-agency engagement processes and managed government and community relationships. She has also negotiated strategic partnerships along with the planning, delivery and evaluation of community services.

A consortium led by Aboriginal-owned business Noongar Mia Mia has earned a $7 million contract to help support the state government’s housing first homeless initiative.
Nearly two-thirds of voters have cited homelessness as a major issue ahead of the state election, with efforts to build social and affordable housing drawing broad support.
