Michael Sukkar is an Australian politician and a member of the Liberal Party, representing the Victorian Division of Deakin since 2013.
He has lived, worked and been a part of the Deakin electorate all his life. Mr Sukkar was elected to the Australian House of Representatives at the 2013 federal election and is the ninth person to hold the seat of Deakin since its creation in 1937. In 2017, he was appointed Assistant Minister to the Treasurer and took on Homelessness, Social and Community Housing portfolios from December 2020 to May 2022 following the defeat of the Liberal Party at the federal election. In June 2022, Mr Sukkar became the Shadow Minister for Social Services, NDIS, Housing & Homelessness in the Dutton shadow ministry.
Prior to entering the parliament, Mr Sukkar spent seven years as a lawyer with Ashurst Australia (then known as Blake Dawson Waldron). Prior to this, he was senior consultant at PwC, specialising in taxation.
He completed a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Commerce at Deakin University in Burwood, and a Master of Laws at the University of Melbourne.
