ULUU raises $8.6m to solve plastic crisis
Perth-based tech startup ULUU has raised $8.6 million to develop and distribute its plastic alternative made from seaweed.
Michael Kingsbury is the co-founder of biotechnology startup ULUU.
Prior to establishing ULUU in April 2020, Mr Kingsbury was a principal of BHP where he helped to guide its multi-billion dollar AI automation growth strategy and R&D portfolio. Prior to BHP, he was an M&A lawyer with top-tier law firm Corrs Chambers Westgarth where he advised on several high-profile M&A and fundraising transactions (including companies in the mining and aquaculture sectors) and helped to drive the firm’s “emerging technologies” practice.
Mr Kingsbury holds double degrees in Law and Commerce (with First Class Honours in Finance) from the University of Western Australia.

Perth-based tech startup ULUU has raised $8.6 million to develop and distribute its plastic alternative made from seaweed.
CSIRO has committed $20 million to its small business programs, including Kick-Start, which helped Perth startup Uluu launch its first product this year with Quiksilver.
Watermans Bay-based seaweed biotechnology company Uluu is among 49 local innovators to win the backing of a government fund designed to help scale WA business ideas.
WA’s seaweed industry took centre stage at the Innovator of the Year awards, with both the winner and runner up of the emerging innovation award going to seaweed products.
