Michael Hulmes is a mining engineer with over 35 years of senior executive, management and corporate experience in base metal and gold mines within Australia, Papua New Guinea, Portugal, Spain, Saudi Arabia, Tanzania, China, South Africa, Brazil, US & UK.
He was the chief operating officer of Appian Capital in Brazil, overseeing the restart of the Mirabela Nickel Mine and the construction of the greenfields Serrote Copper Mine. As former managing director Iberia Operations (Lundin Mining’s Iberian operations), Mr Hulmes was responsible for the large 4.5Mtpa Neves-Corvo – VMS Copper Zinc and the 1.9Mtpa Aguablanca - Copper Nickel Mines in Portugal and Spain respectively. Prior roles include general manager of operations at the Ok Tedi Mine in Papua New Guinea, chief operating officer of Citadel Resources during the development of the Jabal Sayid deposit in Saudi Arabia, general manager of Australian operations at Barrick Australia, and general manager of Plutonic Gold Mine in Western Australia. He was also general manager of the Caijiaying Zinc/Gold Mine (Hebei Province, China) at Huaao Mining Industry Company.
