Matthew Kailis is the grandson of Kailis Bros founder George Kailis. He became the group chief executive of the Legend Holdings/Kailis joint venture KB Foods after the acquisition of Kailis Bros by that entity. This branch of the entrepreneurial Kailis family continued the fishmongering business started by George Peter Kailis after he arrived in Australia from the Greek island of Kastellorizo. The family sold 90 per cent of this enterprise to Legend Holdings, a division of Chinese giant Lenovo, for an estimated $135 million in 2016. At the time, Matthew Kailis became group CEO while his brothers George and Nicholas remained as executives but there are no longer any Kailis family members of the board of the Australian holding company. Matthew and Nicholas are directors of family holding company Cenvil as is another brother Theodore.
