A diesel engine room fire that broke out at IGO’s Nova operation over the weekend will take operations offline for up to four weeks, the company says.
IGO’s flagship is back up and running after a fire forced the miner to shut down operations at the site for several weeks, but the downtime is expected to put a dent in December production.
Boosted lithium production underpinned a stellar fiscal half-year for IGO, but plans to expand its lithium refinery in Kwinana have run into higher costs and delays on a final investment decision.
A 30-hectare site in Kwinana has been earmarked for what is billed to be the first-of-its-kind battery materials facility in Australia, spearheaded by ASX-listed IGO and Andrew Forrest’s Wyloo Metals.
IGO has reported a bolstered net profit ahead of an expected non-cash impairment on the assets it acquired from Western Areas last year.
IGO acting chief executive Matt Dusci will receive a tidy $400,000-plus pay bump for leading the miner on an interim basis, with his permanent replacement due to be named soon.
Battery metals miner IGO has found a new chief executive in Ivan Vella, a long-serving Rio Tinto executive whose career includes a stint as iron ore boss in the aftermath of Juukan Gorge.
IGO sinks after revealing close to a $1 billion write-down on the Cosmos nickel project, as the miner withdraws costs and timeline projections for the asset and ushers in a review.
Battery metals miner IGO says it has reported its “strongest set of financial results” despite recording an almost $1 billion impairment charge against its acquired assets.
