Mark Gerus specialises in litigation for mining and petroleum companies, and provides assistance and advice on complex, contentious and strategic issues in the resources sector. An experienced litigator, Mr Gerus has conducted commercial litigation matters in the Supreme Court of Western Australia and the Federal Court of Australia. He regularly appears as counsel on behalf of mining and exploration companies in the Mining Warden’s Court in relation to key mining infrastructure and title disputes. He has advised Australian resource companies in relation to disputes and litigation arising from international operations and assisted in major crisis response issues in Western Australia and Africa. In Legal 500 Asia Pacific’s review of leading lawyers, Mr Gerus is recommended for dispute resolution. Legal 500 notes that the firm’s litigation practice is "pre-eminent within mining and petroleum" (2013). He is also recognised as a leading lawyer by Best Lawyers 2017 and Benchmark Asia Pacific 2014. Mr Gerus is on the Editorial Board of the Australian Resources and Energy Law Journal and the Australian Resources Law Reports. He is a committee member of the Australian Mining and Petroleum Law Association (WA branch) and a representative on the Western Australian Mining Industry Liaison Committee. He holds a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Western Australia and a Master of Laws from the University of Melbourne.
