Gold explorers plunge into West Africa
A clutch of small-to-medium Western Australian gold companies is carving out a significant niche in West Africa’s emerging, key mineral fields.
Mark Calderwood is an exploration geologist and resources executive with over 30 years of experience in exploration and production, resource & reserve estimation, and feasibility studies.
Mr Calderwood also has significant experience with LCT pegmatites, lithium exploration and mine development; and is a co-author of a guidebook to the pegmatites of Western Australia.
Mr Calderwood played key roles in the discovery of several world-class gold deposits including Edikan (Perseus), Kibali (Barrick-AGA) and Tarmoola (King of the Hills) in Western Australia. He was the managing director of Perseus Mining and Alita Resources. He joined the board of Manas Resources in 2007 and was appointed non-executive chair in 2014, executive chair in 2015, and was non-executive director until his departure in October 2019.
Mr Calderwood is a member of the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy.
