Professor Malcolm Richmond has over 30 years of experience in the resources industry with Rio Tinto and CRA where he held a number of positions including as vice president of strategy and acquisitions, managing director of research and technology, and managing director of development at Hamersley Iron. He was also the deputy chair of the Australian Mineral Industries Research Association and vice president of the WA Chamber of Minerals and Energy.
Professor Richmond is a qualified metallurgist and economist who holds both an Honours degree in Science (Metallurgy) and a degree in Commerce. He has extensive senior executive and board experience in the resource and technology industries, both in Australia and internationally. He is especially interested in corporate strategy and the development of markets for internationally traded minerals and metals, particularly in Asia.
Professor Richmond served as Visiting Professor at the Graduate School of Management and School of Engineering, University of Western Australia, until January 2012.
He is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences & Engineering, a Fellow of Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy, and a member of Strategic Planning Institute (US).
