Makan Mirzai commenced his legal career in 2007 as an inhouse solicitor representing the Commonwealth Government’s Department of Industry and Resources. Since then, he has also practised law at boutique and mid-sized firms to a top tier national firm.
Mr Mirzai practises primarily in the areas of commercial litigation, insolvency law, personal bankruptcies and general commercial law. He has extensive experience in drafting pleadings, submissions and other court documents, and has appeared as counsel in interlocutory and final hearings in jurisdictions including the Supreme Court of Western Australia, District Court of Western Australia, and Federal Court of Australia (WA and QLD registries). Mr Mirzai has also represented various clients in relation to contractual disputes and misleading and deceptive conduct claims, including disputes between directors and shareholders and litigation resulting from failed corporate acquisitions.
His insolvency experience includes advising receivers, administrators and liquidators in relation to their rights and obligations, including recovering amounts pursuant to voidable transactions provisions of the Corporations Act; and representing corporate and individual clients in defending claims made by liquidators and negotiating settlements when appropriate.
