Liza Harvey became the 34th Leader of the Opposition in Western Australia in June 2019, and the first female leader of the Liberals in WA. She was the Liberal Party Member of the Legislative Assembly for Scarborough, and was deputy leader of the Liberal Party (WA) from 2016 prior to being elected unopposed as its Leader following the resignation of Dr Mike Nahan in 2019.
In 2016, Ms Harvey was the deputy premier of Western Australia, the first woman to hold the position, from 2016-2017 under the former Barnett Liberal government. She was the Minister for Police & Road Safety from 2012-2017; Minister for Small Business (for a year), Women's Interest & Tourism from 2013-2017; and Minister for Training & Workforce Development from 2014-2017.
In July 2020, she added Shadow Minister for Local Jobs to her portfolio, to deal with the impacts of unemployment arising from the coronavirus pandemic. In November 2020, Ms Harvey resigned from the WA Liberal Party leadership but will recontest the seat of Scarborough in the March 2021 election. In December 2020, she picked up the portfolio for Mental Health following a cabinet reshuffle by her successor Zak Kirkup.
Ms Harvey lost her seat at the 2021 state election.
