Libby Mettam has been the Liberal Party Member of the Legislative Assembly for Vasse since 2014.
She was Western Australia's Shadow Minister for Transport and Shadow Minister Assisting the Leader under Liza Harvey's Shadow Cabinet in 2019. In 2020, she added Ports and Fisheries to her portfolio. Ms Mettam became deputy leader of the WA Liberal Party in November 2020.
At the 2021 state election, she was only one of 2 Liberal Party member to hold on to their seats. She became the Shadow Minister for health, mental health, disability services, prevention of family and domestic violence. In late January 2023 Ms Mettam took over as leader of the Liberal Party of WA following a leadership contest with David Honey, becoming the second woman to hold the position after Liza Harvey. The National-Liberal Alliance was formed in February 2023 and Ms Mettam became the Shadow Minister for health, mental health, disability services, prevention of family & domestic violence, child protection. Ms Mettam did not recontest for the Liberal Party leadership in March 2025, instead regaining the role of deputy leader.
Ms Mettam was a journalist with the ABC and Channel Nine before spending a decade on the staff of Barry House, an Australian politician who was president of the Legislative Council.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts majoring in broadcasting from the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, and a Masters in Public Administration from Curtin University.
