Libby Lyons is an experienced and well-connected public affairs professional, and has managed public affairs functions for a diverse range of private and publicly listed companies and government agencies for many years. She has hands-on experience in issues management, crisis management, media relations, stakeholder relations, partnerships/sponsorships and government relations.
In 2014, she moved from Perth to Adelaide to take an executive role at mining giant BHP Billiton's Olympic Dam project. She was also the general manager of external relations at Atlas Iron and held public affairs roles at CITIC Pacific Mining, Alcoa of Australia and Western Power. Ms Lyons was a director of the Workplace Gender Equality Agency for 5 years. She was appointed a strategic counsel of CGM Communications in November 2021.
Ms Lyons was executive chair of the Perth-based disability charity Kalparrin. She became the WA chair of Chief Executive Women in August 2021, chair of Science in Australia Gender Equity (SAGE), an ambassador for Honour a Woman, and an adjunct professor at Australia Catholic University.
Ms Lyons was listed in Apolitical’s 100 Most Influential People Working in Gender Policy in 2018 and 2019. She was featured in the book 200 Women, and was awarded Woman of the Decade for Gender Policy by Women Economic Forum in 2019. She also presented at the United Nations’ Commission on the Status of Women in New York in 2018 and 2019.
In 2022, Ms Lyons was named an honorary doctor of letters from Curtin University for her contribution to social sciences through her advocacy for workplace gender equality.
In 2024, she was inducted into the WA Women’s Hall of Fame under the business category.
