Kirsty Danby has over 20 years of experience working in the resources industry, across the energy, mining, oil and gas sectors. She provides strategic advice to resource companies on how best to manage Environmental Social Governance, and is a specialist across social license to operate, government relations, corporate affairs, stakeholder engagement and communications.
Ms Danby has been chief executive of the Port Hedland Industries Council (PHIC) since April 2019. The council represents BHP, Fortescue Metals Group, Pilbara Ports Authority, Roy Hill, Consolidated Minerals, Pilbara Minerals & Sandfire Resources. Ms Danby drives a collaborative approach to cumulative industry issues in Port Hedland where PHIC provides a single industry-wide point of contact, and coordinates inter-industry responses to issues and proactive knowledge sharing of best practice.
Ms Danby is also the founding director of Platform Communications, a strategic communications and graphic design firm established in November 2006 that specialises in the global resources sector.
She was president of the WA Mining Club and is its first female lifetime member; chair of Curtin University’s Humanities Faculty Advisory Council where she helped guide the future strategic direction of the faculty; chair of the AOG Diversity and Inclusion Committee; and board member of Solaris Cancer Care, Energy Club WA and Perth Centre for Photography.
Ms Danby has always worked to encourage the next generation of mining professionals, and has personally mentored a number of junior professionals, many of whom have gone on to lead extraordinary careers. During her tenure at the WA Mining Club, she assisted with extending the scholarships program and attracted additional sponsors to the program. Ms Danby's leadership in developing the Young Professionals initiative, as well as supporting STEM UnitED, has helped a new generation of industry leaders take to the stage and encourage young people into the mining industry.
