Kerry Wood has over 20 years of experience conducting public liability litigation, primarily acting for major insurers in the areas of workers’ compensation, employer’s liability, public and product liability, and motor vehicle claims. She has extensive experience conducting claims on behalf of insurers and self-insureds in the Conciliation and Arbitration Service (formerly DRD) and District Court of WA.
Ms Wood regularly advises clients on complex liability issues including multiple defendants and recoveries. She is very experienced in assessing personal injury damages and frequently provides advice to insurers on quantum of Fatal Accidents’ Act (WA) claims. Ms Wood has extensive public liability claims management expertise and is always pro-active in ensuring all necessary factual and medical / economic evidence is obtained as early as possible on a claim to ensure her reserve recommendations are as accurate as possible.
Ms Wood is continually focused on early settlement of claims and provides her clients with legally and commercially sound advice with that end in mind. She regularly represents insurers to settle claims in Conciliation conferences at the Conciliation and Arbitration Service and in pre-trial conferences in the District Court. Ms Wood has successfully conducted a trial in the District Court where quantum of damages of a motor vehicle injury claim was in dispute, and has also conducted a successful Full Court appeal related to a Medical Panel’s failure to give adequate reasons for its assessment of permanent psychiatric disability. Ms Wood has acted for Allianz, QBE Insurance, Comcare, Westpac Banking Corporation, Vero Workers’ Compensation, Insurance Commission of WA (RiskCover and MVPID) and WFI.
