Dr Justin Welsh completed his PhD at James Cook University and worked closely with the commercial fishing, conservation and aquaculture industries in Australia and abroad. His research focused on developing innovative research and development programs to improve operational efficiencies and performance across the sectors he was involved with. During his time at James Cook University, Dr Welsh was also involved with the Centre for Macroalgal Resources and Biotechnology to support continued efforts to commercialise algae production.
After leaving Queensland, Dr Welsh became an environmental consultant with a focus on supporting WA’s aquaculture industry. He has worked with a number of leading aquaculture organisations in WA to support their expansions, comply with environmental monitoring requirements and liaise with regulators.
Dr Welsh has been the general manager of Harvest Road Group's aquaculture businesses. Harvest Road is focused on shellfish production from Carnarvon to Albany but are investigating options to expand into numerous other aquaculture species. One of his focuses is to continue the company’s expansion into aquaculture and position Harvest Road as industry citizen, driving positive change in WA’s aquaculture industry.
