Dr Julian Kelly is a materials scientist with a PhD in Chemical Physics. His special expertise is in the properties and applications of nuclear and radioactive materials. Dr Kelly worked for several years in Norway developing a novel thorium-based nuclear fuel (incorporating recycled plutonium), and started a nuclear medicine company Isoclide Medical which provided alpha-emitting isotopes for novel ‘radiotherapeutic’ drugs. He has also held technical nuclear policy roles for the Australian government, including at ANSTO, and was the nuclear attaché at the Australian Embassy in Vienna.
