Professor Jonathan Carapetis AM is the president elect of the Association of Australian Medical Research Institute (AAMRI), and will be its first president based in Western Australia.
Prof Carapetis is a paediatric physician with particular expertise in infectious disease and Indigenous child health.
In 2018, he was awarded a Member of the Order of Australia for significant service to medicine in the field of paediatrics, particularly the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of rheumatic heart disease.
In 2021, Prof Carapetis won the Western Australian of the Year's Professions Award.
Prof Carapetis is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences, and Fellow of the Australian Academy of Sciences.
