John Reynolds

John Reynolds graduated from the Australian National University in 1995 and commenced work with a national law firm in Canberra (Minter Ellison and its predecessor firms). Initially, he worked on plaintiff professional indemnity and defamation claims. He then acted for 6 former officers in the Samuels-Codd Royal Commission of Inquiry into Australian Secret Intelligence Service, and for a whistleblower in the Inquiry into Management Response to Allegations of Paedophile Activity Within the Foreign Affairs Portfolio. As the Commonwealth opened up the provision of legal services to private firms, he advised a number of Commonwealth departments (finance and primary Industries) Commonwealth agencies, (National Food Authority, Office of Asset Sales and the Australian National Audit Office) and government-owned corporations (National Rail, East Australian Pipeline and Australian Defence Industries) on a range of commercial, administrative, trade practices, access and native title issues and claims. From 2001 to 2010, Mr Reynolds worked for Lovells (now Hogan Lovells) in London in the Projects Engineering & Construction Group splitting his time between providing real time advice on major international projects (power stations, desalination plants, process plants, optic fibre & radio networks, toll roads, railway rolling stock, offshore gas facilities) and prosecuting claims in the English Courts or via international arbitration (ICC, LCIA, UNCITRAL, SIAC & ICSID rules) His clients included Mitsubishi, Kawasaki, ALSTOM, Fluor and Bechtel. He also ran commercial litigation for Terra Firma Capital Partners and a number of high networth individuals. In 2011, Mr Reynolds returned to Australia and worked at McKenzie Moncrieff and then Jackson McDonald. He was responsible for neutralising a host of claims against the original owner of Raine Square and then assisted in the preparation of substantial claims against the financiers of the project and their agents. Since arriving in Perth, he has acted for a number of West Australian corporate and commercial entities. He has also advised the Sri Lankan Government during CHOGM, the leader of an African political party, the attorney general of a South Pacific nation, and the traditional owners at James Price Point.
