John Poynton AO CitWA is a company director and philanthropist, and one of Perth’s most prominent and successful investment bankers and corporate advisors. He is also chair of corporate advisory firm Poynton Stavrianou.
Mr Poynton was co-founder of Azure Capital in 2004 and served as chair until April 2016. He was also a co-founder and chair of GEM Consulting (1996-2004) and was managing director & chair of stockbroking firm Hartley Poynton (now Hartleys), where he worked from 1976 to 1996. Past roles included being chair of Alinta, ASX Perth and Crown Resorts Perth; and a director of Austal, Multiplex and Swan Gold Mining. In the not-for-profit arena, Mr Poynton chaired Celebrate WA (2010 to 2014) and the WA Museum Foundation, and was a member of the Higher Education Endowment Fund Advisory Board, Payments System Board of the Reserve Bank of Australia and of the UWA Business School.
Mr Poynton was a recipient of a WA Citizen of the Year award in the industry and commerce category.
He was awarded a Member of the Order of Australia and in 2016, he was promoted to an Officer of the Order of Australia for services to the community and business through his leadership and support of the not-for-profit sector.
