John Dorward has extensive background across finance and resources, having held senior roles including as vice president of business development, chief financial officer and commercial executive at Canadian and Australian-based companies.
Prior to becoming the managing director of Vital Metals in November 2022, Mr Dorward was the president, chief executive and director of Toronto-headquartered Roxgold which was acquired by Fortuna Silver Mines in 2021. Mr Dorward was also vice president of business development at Fronteer Gold which was subsequently acquired by Newmont; chief financial officer of Mineral Deposits where he was responsible for financing the Sabodala Gold Project in Senegal, West Africa; chief financial officer and company secretary of Leviathan Resources; and commercial executive and company secretary of MPI Mines. Before joining MPI Mines, Mr Dorward had 8 years of experience in the banking sector with a number of years spent in a senior resource project finance role with BankWest.
He holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Hons) from the University of Melbourne, a Graduate Diploma in Applied Finance and Investment, and a Graduate Diploma from Chartered Secretaries Australia. Mr Dorward has also completed the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) program.
