John Barrington AM is the co-founder, managing director and chief executive of Artrya Ltd, a Western Australian company developing Artificial Intelligence systems to diagnose heart disease from medical images.
He is Chair of the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research, Curtin University School of Management & Marketing and John Curtin Gallery and Deputy Chair of the National Portrait Gallery of Australia. He was previously chair of Anglicare WA and the Perth International Arts Festival.
Mr Barrington is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and Australian Institute of Management WA, holds a Bachelor of Business from Curtin University, and an MBA from the Australian Graduate School of Management at the University of NSW.
In 2017, Mr Barrington received the Australian Institute of Company Directors-PwC Award for Director Excellence in the Not-for-Profit Sector. He was a finalist in the Arts and Culture category of the 2018 Western Australian of the Year Award.
In 2019, Mr Barrington was awarded a Member of the Order of Australia for significant service to the community of Western Australia.
In August 2020, Mr Barrington was the only Western Australian appointed to the federal government’s Creative Economy Taskforce (as deputy chair) which was established to help rebuild the sector.
