Hon Jane Crisford SC has a strong background in family law and worked with the Aboriginal Legal Service from 1985 to 1991, during which time she headed the unit assisting the Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody. She studied law at the University of Western Australia, did her articles in the then Crown Law Department, was admitted to the bar in 1978, and was appointed Senior Counsel in 2002. From 1991 to 1997, Ms Crisford was a partner in Dwyer Durack where she specialised in family law. She joined Wickham Chambers in 1998. Ms Crisford is the first female chair of the Legal Aid Commission of Western Australia. She was a former judge of the District Court of WA and the Family Court of Australia. Prior to her judicial roles, she was president of the Equal Opportunity Commission.
