Ian MacLeod
Dr Ian MacLeod AM has retired after 38 years with the WA Museum and was made a Fellow of the Western Australian Museum, the highest honour for the executive director of Fremantle Museums and Collections. Dr MacLeod came to museum conservation from an electrochemistry background and it was the minerals that formed on the copper sheathing of ships’ hulls that drew him to the WA Museum as a research officer in 1978. He has a passion for metals conservation, and had made a significant contribution to the Museum particularly in the fields of shipwreck conservation and the preservation of Aboriginal rock art. In 2019, Dr MacLeod was made a Member of the Order of Australia for significant service to the museum and galleries sector.
