ATAR might be past its use-by date
With no clear alternative to compare secondary students across schools, ATAR will likely remain the standard, despite some high-profile opposition.

Helen Aguiar has worked in the education sector for almost three decades.
Ms Aguiar was the principal of Perth College for 5 years before stepping down in August 2023 to focus on her health and family. Prior to Perth College she spent 11 years at All Saints’ College, as the deputy principal of pastoral care and then as vice principal. She was also the learning coordinator and deputy principal at Emmanuel Catholic College, and a teacher & Year 8 coordinator at Lumen Christi College.
