Election set to spark power shift
The looming federal election could mark a big shift in political power, not just in Canberra but also WA.
Glenn Sterle was appointed Shadow Assistant Minister for Road Safety under Anthony Albanese's Shadow Cabinet in 2019. He represents the state of Western Australia for the Australian Labor Party, and has been a member of the Australian Senate since 2005.
Mr Sterle spent 14 years as an owner-operator before giving up his business operating road trains throughout northern Western Australia and the Northern Territory to become an organiser with the Transport Workers Union in 1991, which then prompted him to join the Australian Labor Party in 1991. In 1999, Mr Sterle was elected as a delegate to the party's state conference. He served as the ALP's transport policy convener in 2000, and was a delegate to the party's national conference in 2002 and 2004.
