Dealmakers ponder life after the crisis
It is not that Perth dealmakers are joining the dole queues, they have just had a little more time on their hands recently.
Geoff Rasmussen was a Western Australian corporate leader in both investment banking and philanthropy. He passed away on April 22 2016, after a long battle with cancer, aged 45. Originally a management consultant, in the 1990s he jointly established the corporate advisory division of what was then called Hartley Poynton. It later separated from the brokerage to form two businesses, Poynton and Partners, an investment banking operation, and GEM, a management consulting business, under the oversight of John Poynton. That was sold and the key players later went on to form Azure Capital, a boutique investment bank which has been a local leader for more than a decade. Mr Rasmussen was managing director until his illness made work too difficult. Apart from the corporate field, he has also been a high profile philanthropist, most notably at Youth Focus which he chaired.
