Gail Kelly began her banking career in 1980, and by 2001 had held various senior management roles in a broad range of areas including retail and commercial banking, strategy, marketing and human resources. She has spent the last twelve years as CEO of two Australian banks, St.George Bank from 2002 to 2007 and Westpac from 2008 to date. Ms Kelly holds a Bachelor of Arts degree and Higher Diploma of Education from Cape Town University and an MBA with Distinction from the University of Witwatersrand. Ms Kelly is Chairman of the Australian Bankers’ Association and a non-executive director of the Business Council of Australia and the Financial Markets Foundation for Children. She also serves on the Prime Minister’s Indigenous Advisory Council and is CARE Australia’s Ambassador for Women’s Empowerment. Internationally, she is Vice President of the International Monetary Conference, she sits on the Global Board of Advisers at the US Council on Foreign Relations and is a member of the Group of Thirty.
