With over 20 years' experience in workplace relations, employment and native title law, Franklin Gaffney joined Lavan as special counsel in October 2016. He advises on a broad range of employment-related matters including the transfer of businesses, re-structuring, redundancies, outsourcing, internal reviews and occupational health and safety investigations, as well as drafting and negotiating enterprise bargaining agreements and senior executive contracts of employment. In native title, Mr Gaffney advises on the establishment of Prescribed Bodies Corporate, negotiation and implementation of native title agreements, and negotiating strategic alliances and commercial agreements that deliver Indigenous employment and business development opportunities. He has represented clients before parliamentary committees, courts and tribunals in Australia and the United Kingdom. Mr Gaffney was chief executive of two Aboriginal corporations, and also held positions in the senior executive service at the National Native Title Tribunal including as acting CEO/Registrar, representing the Tribunal in the review of the native title system. Prior to that, he was a senior employment lawyer for international law firms.
