Vella elected CME president
Rio Tinto’s Ivan Vella has been elected Chamber of Minerals and Energy of Western Australia’s new president, replacing Edgar Basto.
Fiona Hick has over 25 years of experience in the oil, gas and mining industries.
Ms Hick was the chief executive of Fortescue Metals from February to August 2023. Prior to that, she joined Woodside in February 2001 and was vice president of health, safety, environment and quality in May 2016; crisis management leader in July 2018; vice president of strategy planning and analysis in January 2019; acting executive vice president of operations in October 2019; senior vice president of operations in July 2020; and executive vice president of operations in April 2021. Prior to joining Woodside, Ms Hick had spent over 5 years with Rio Tinto, living and working in their remote locations.
In 2019, Ms Hick won the 2019 Chamber of Minerals and Energy Western Australia's Outstanding Woman in Resources Award.
She is the first woman to serve as president of The Chamber of Minerals and Energy of Western Australia in May 2021. Ms Hick is also a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and the University of Western Australia's Strategic Resources Committee, an Associate Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management, and Fellow of the Institute of Engineers.
