Edgar Basto is BHP's chief operating officer. He was previously president of Minerals Australia. Mr Basto is part of BHP’s executive leadership team. Previous roles include BHP Billiton's asset president of WA Iron Ore after serving as vice president of production mines and acting president of copper. He joined BHP in 1989 where he held senior operational roles in Colombia and Peru before moving to its offices in Melbourne and Perth.
Mr Basto has a Bachelor of Applied Science (Metallurgical Engineering) from the Universidad Industrial de Santander in Colombia.
