$68m deep-space antenna build begins
Construction has begun on a $68 million antenna at the European Space Agency’s New Norcia tracking site, a project tipped to strengthen the agency’s relationship with Australia.
Ed Husic is an Australian politician and a member of the Labor Party, representing the division of Chifley in western Sydney since 2010. He is the first Muslim to be elected to federal parliament.
When Kevin Rudd announced the Second Rudd Ministry in 2013, Mr Husic became the first Muslim sworn onto the Australian federal government frontbench, as Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister and Parliamentary Secretary for Broadband, taking his oath on the Quran. He served as the Shadow Minister for the Digital Economy and the Shadow Minister for Human Services until his resignation in 2019. Mr Husic was added back to the shadow cabinet as Shadow Minister for Agriculture and Resources, and became the Shadow Minister for Industry and Innovation after a shadow cabinet reshuffle in January 2021. Following the Labor Party's victory at the 2022 federal election, Mr Husic became the Minister for Industry & Science under the Albanese government.
