Local heads offer family business advice
Prominent family businesses have expressed concern over accessing appropriate advice and resources amid providing lessons for commercial success learnt on the frontline.
Denis Horgan is the co-founder and owner of renowned Margaret River winery Leeuwin Estate. An accountant by trade, he was a prominent entrepreneur during the 1980s. As the chairman and major shareholder of Barrack House Group, he controlled gold mining, energy and industrial businesses. The group collapsed in the early 1990s. Mr Horgan was a key backer of the University of Notre Dame Australia, helping to fund its establishment and serving briefly as its first chancellor in 1990. He served for many years as a director of the Leeuwin Estate Charitable Foundation.
