Professor David Gilchrist is a historian and accountant. He has held a number of senior roles in the not-for-profit and public sectors and, most recently, was assistant auditor general for Western Australia.
Prof Gilchrist has been a professor of accounting and finance at the University of Western Australia since January 2017. Early in 2011, he was appointed industry professor within the School of Accounting at Curtin University where he researches in the areas of government and not-for-profit performance, regulation, governance, accounting and economic history. He has published in all these fields academically and has contributed pieces of journalism to a number of professional journals including Company Director. Previously, he has taught accounting and finance at the London School of Economics and Portsmouth University in the UK as well as Curtin University and Edith Cowan University in Australia. He was Associate Dean of the School of Business, University of Notre Dame Australia and adjunct professor of not-for-profit leadership at that institution.
Professor Gilchrist has been president of WACOSS and was a director of the Anglican Schools Commission.
He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and a Councillor for the Institute of Chartered Accountants.
