David Gay is a professional mining engineer with an MBA and over 35 years of experience in developing coal projects in the USA. His experience covers the entire coal development chain including leasing, permitting, exploration, construction, commissioning, production, mergers & acquisitions, and financing activities (including project finance, high yield bonds, bank debt, structured finance and equity).
He was vice president, mergers and acquisitions and business development at Alpha Natural Resources, one of the USA's largest coal producers. During his time, Alpha completed over US$10 billion worth of mergers and acquisitions and transitioned into one of the largest coal companies in the US and the third largest coking coal exporter globally. Prior to that, Mr Gay led several large regional coal companies and was business unit president of Pittston Coal Group (20 years' experience) which at the time was the largest coking coal exporter worldwide.
