After almost a decade of providing support to Howard Park with one of Australia’s leading viticultural consultancies, David Botting jumped at the opportunity to join the Howard Park’s team outright in 2004. Under his tenure, many vineyard innovations have been implemented with a focus on perfection, control & bringing viticultural operations in-house. Highlight achievements include selecting & planting the Allingham vineyard from scratch, nurturing the Mount Barrow vineyard, importing new clones, establishing a rootling nursery & introducing an extensive composting regime. Vineyards have been part of Mr Botting’s heritage since his grandfather took up grape growing as a soldier settler, following his return from service in Gallipoli during World War I. Mr Botting began his own career at an early age in his family’s grape growing business, before studying and teaching viticulture at Roseworthy Agricultural College in the early 1990s. Several years were also spent investigating various aspects of grape & wine quality with the Co-operative Research Centre for Viticulture at the University of Adelaide. From there, he joined Davidson Viticultural Consulting Services & travelled extensively, providing technical advice to wine-growing businesses all around Australia & internationally.
