Record fine for safety breaches
Bayswater company Resource Recovery Solutions has been fined $330,000 for a series of workplace safety breaches, the largest fine ever imposed in Western Australia.
Darren Kavanagh has more than 15 years of experience working in Australia’s occupational, health and safety sectors.
Mr Kavanagh was Western Australia's WorkSafe Commissioner from December 2018 to September 2023. He had also worked at the Federal Department of Defence as assistant director of estate management and planning; risk and compliance manager for South Australia, Northern Territory and Western Australia; and work health and safety manager. Prior to that, Mr Kavanagh spent six years at the then Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Union as occupational safety and health manager.
He is a nominated board member of the Building and Construction Industry Training Fund, and a member of the Worksafe Commission.
