Influence radiates from centre of power
SPECIAL REPORT: A small group of ministers and backroom advisers close to Mark McGowan will set the agenda for the new state government.
Daniel Pastorelli was chief of staff to former Premier Mark McGowan. He had been a key member of Mr McGowan’s inner circle for several years.
The two men first worked together during the Carpenter government, when Mr McGowan was education minister. After Labor lost office in 2008, Mr Pastorelli joined shadow planning minister Rita Saffioti. That was after he had managed Ms Saffioti’s election campaign in 2008.
He rejoined Mr McGowan in 2013, holding various roles in opposition and government, including director of communications, prior to being promoted to chief of staff in March 2021.
