Chris Murphy was a partner of HBA Legal's Brisbane office from February 2016 to July 2019 prior to becoming a special counsel at Cooper Grace Ward.
Admitted to practice in 2005, he has built a reputation as one of the country’s best public liability lawyers (both personal injury and property damage), and is recognised for his work in professional indemnity and workplace health and safety prosecutions.
Mr Murphy is a Queensland Law Society (QLS) accredited specialist in personal injuries. He manages a large volume of public liability claims, his extensive claims experience spanning most areas of the economy including retail, health/aged care, manufacturing, mining, sport/recreation and transport.
Mr Murphy also has a significant interest in the aged care sector, acting for two of Queensland’s self-insured aged care employers for several years and developing an intimate understanding of the industry. His experience acting for plaintiffs gives him a sound understanding of the commercial reality of plaintiff law firms (and plaintiff psychology). He can identify resolution strategies which meet the commercial needs of his clients and also has a sound understanding of the service that insurer and large corporate clients need from their lawyers, having worked in-house for a national self-insured.
