Brian Atkin has been involved in the insurance industry since 1969 and a self-employed insurance broker since 1991. He has advised commercial clients on various aspects of risk and insurance programs, as well as negotiated claims settlements. In 2001, together with a business partner, Mr Atkin established an insurance broking office and an underwriting agency business. Both those businesses were sold to Cowden in 2013 and Mr Atkin is now a shareholder and director of the company. He also has a passion for the ongoing success of basketball and has been involved as a player, coach and administrator for over 50 years in South Australia, New South Wales, Northern Territory, and Western Australia. Mr Atkin was a board member of Darwin Basketball Association from 1978 to 1980, vice president of Basketball WA in 1984 and 1985 which saw him as chair of the committee operating the Perth Wildcats, and was president of Wanneroo Basketball Association from 1999 to 2003.
