Dr Brett Cairns has been the chief executive of Magellan Financial Group since 2018. He joined Magellan Financial Group and Magellan Asset Management in 2007 as non-executive director before becoming non-executive chair of Magellan Financial Group in 2013 and executive chair from 2015 to 2018.
Previously, Dr Cairns was co-head of the capital markets group within structured finance at Babcock & Brown, which he joined in 2002. He was also the managing director and head of debt capital markets for Merrill Lynch in Australia where he worked from 1994 to 2002, having spent 3 years with Credit Suisse Financial Products which was then the derivatives bank of the Credit Suisse group.
